With an inscribed name of John Dorr 1770-1853, it is assumed that Dorr wrote this document. It is recorded that Dorr was the owner of various shipping vessels and was the son of Ebenezer Dorr (1739-1809), a China Trade ship captain and merchant with whom he began working with in the 1790s along with his other siblings. The Dorr family was well known as a China Trade shipping family throughout Boston, and Ebenezer’s children continued the family business after his death, including John Dorr.
Dorr was the owner of various ships involved in trade throughout the world, including throughout South America, Asia, the East Indies, & Europe, and this record appears to account for those voyages. This is a fascinating record of early 19th century maritime history and was part of original materials related to the triangle trade.
