Dating to the 19th century, this pleasing silhouette cut portrait of a young gentleman wearing glasses in a formal tuxedo style attire befitting the period, with hand-painted details in a fine lime toned wintergreen and white against a delete and exact silhouette detail of black paper against a tanned card backing.
The original black painted frame has a beautiful crusted glaze and a gorgeous patinated brass mounting hook in high relief depicting a basket of fruit and flowers. The lower right edge of the mounted card with an illegible inscription that is heavily faded in cursive script. Condition
The painting with various imperfections to the frame. The glass panel displays edge chips—the frame crazing to the frame. The frame inset panel is loose and held with the reverse triangular hooks—the painting and silhouette with staining and foxing—the silhouette with a partial lift. The inscription is heavily faded and illegible.
