This Madonna and Child with St Catherine engraving print for sale is dated to the 17th-century and after the original painting by Anthony Van Dyck. The original engraving print by Antwerp and Brussels engraver Schelte a Bolswert (ca. 1581 – 1659) is dated to circa 1630-1635. A devotional image of Mary and the Christ Child is shown attended by St. Catherine. and was influenced by Van Dyck’s great admiration for the artwork of Titian, Veronese, and similar north Italian artists.
The image shows the infant child Jesus in an animated display to Saint Catherine identified by pearls worn in her hair and the martyr’s palm held against her chest. Condition
The engraving with trimmed edges toning to the paper and light staining. The reverse with accession numbers and pencil notations. Also, with linen tape remnants on the reverse. The sheet with minor creasing.
