Shop this Walker Evans Cabin photograph for sale. This original gelatin silver print dates to the summer of 1936. The image depicts a white wooden sharecropper cabin in Hale County, Alabama, during the mid-1930s. The original negative image is part of the Farm Security Administration FSA- Office of War Information Photograph Collection (Library of Congress) LC-USF342- 008157-A [P&P] LOT 1604. This silver gelatin printed photograph is dated to the 1980s. The sheet’s reverse retains an official label “REPRODUCED FROM THE COLLECTIONS OF THE LIBRARY OF CONGRESS” and a handwritten pencil catalog number.
American photographer Walker Evans was best known for his (FSA) Farm Security Administration work. He documented the effects of the Great Depression throughout rural communities and the deep South. This fabulous black and white photograph is a beautifully framed landscape image. It comes to us from an extensive collection of FSA photographs initially acquired through a Washington D.C. art advisory firm.
