Stamped “Pearson Sterling” on the reverse of the clip, this vintage silver accessory is emblematic of Pearson’s abstract organically geomatic forms and shapes. Ronald Hayes Pearson was born in New York City and attended the University of Wisconsin from 1942 to 1943. After serving in the United States Merchant Marine, he completed his education at Alfred University’s School for American Craftsmen from 1947 to 1948. The Reed & Barton Silver Company’s special design program, which he joined in 1949, was his first professional experience. Pearson was a founding member of the Society of North American Goldsmiths, and he taught jewelry-making at prestigious trade schools while also designing flatware for major silver manufacturers.
Pearson’s long was inducted into the American Craft Council in 1976, and he received an honorary doctorate from the Portland School of Art in Maine in 1987 for his contributions to the development of American jewelry design.
