Product Information
This Hans Frank Peacock Wood Cut print is available for purchase. The color woodcut is signed in pencil by Hans Frank in the lower corner edge of the image. Hans Frank (1884-1948) was a painter, draughtsman, color woodcut, and printer who worked in various media. He was born in the Austrian capital of Vienna and died in the city of Salzburg. In addition, he was the brother of the artist, Leo Frank.
Utagawa Hiroshige and Katsushika Hokusai, the artist who created the print “The Great Wave off Kanagawa,” significantly influenced Frank’s woodcuts, which strongly impacted the Japanese Ukiyo-e art style, which originated in the 17th century. The story of birds in Frank’s woodcuts was something he liked. The motif of the brightly colored peacock may be seen throughout his work in varying degrees of detail, some of which are faithful representations of natural forms and others that are more impressionistic and interpretive.
