Product Information
British still life watercolor study, with initials for English romantic era artist Edward Lear. “E.L.” Dated Jan 1st, 1868. The initials in the lower right corner possibly added later.
Lear known not only as an artist and illustrator but also as an author and musician, popularized a form of poetry and limericks. Many such drawings contain such initials of well-known artists, and as such drawings are typically studies or partial works, the definition of attribution is not always known. In the case of this work, the painting and paper are of the period; however, as with many such works, it is a drawing attributed to the artist.
