Shop this Edo period Japanese wood turtle netsuke by Tomotada for sale. This beautifully carved Japanese miniature sculpture is from the Edo period (1615-1868) and is made from boxwood. It is signed by the artist known as Tomotada on one side, who was an artist during the Edo period, circa 19th century. Originally used as an inro or box fastener, this animal form carving of a turtle has been well executed with great detail. The turtle with its head and legs are shown as retracted within its carapace shell and finely carved details. the wood is a dark color aged with areas of shading and strong patina.

Condition
The netsuke has minor abrasions and surface imperfections with areas of toning and oxidation to the wooden surface.
