Antique silhouette portraits are a beautiful and unique way to capture a loved one’s likeness and a must for antique interior decoration. This particular silhouette is of a lady, full length, framed in paper cut with hand-applied gilt decoration. The intricate design of the paper cut frame is stunning, and the deep black of the silhouette against the deep tone paper makes for a striking contrast. The sheet is hand-signed “Beaumont” short for the artist W. H. Beaumont (British, active Cheltenham, ca. 1833–52). The silhouette is composed of cut paper, pen and ink, and gouache. These portraits were very popular in the 18th and 19th centuries. It would make a wonderful addition to any collection or a lovely gift for someone special.

Condition
The sheet has foxing and areas of light staining with light wear to the hand-applied gilt decoration.
