This beautifully carved sculpture is a wonderful example of Inupiat art. The sculpture, which dates to the later 20th century, depicts a bird standing on the land. The stone is a beautiful shade of green, and the carving is very detailed. The wings are outstretched, and the tail is streaming behind the bird. The sculpture is signed by the artist and would be a great addition to any Inupiat – Inuit-Yupik art collection. Seeganna (1949b.) comes from an important line of artists – Louis Seeganna (1914-99), near King Island, home to a group of Inupiat known as Ugiuvangmiut or King Islanders in Alaska.

The sculpture measures 6.25 inches in height.
Condition
The sculpture has scuffs and abrasions on the figure’s surface, with inclusions and imperfections in the stone.
