Product Information
Francisco Goya’s ‘The Little Prisoner’ is a haunting etching that captures the artist’s feelings of despair and powerlessness. Goya was living in Spain during a time of political turmoil, and he saw firsthand the effects of war and dictatorship. The ‘The Little Prisoner’ shows a young boy huddled in a dark cell, his face hidden in shadow. The print is unsettling, but there is also an element of hope in the boy’s hunched stance. He may be trapped in the present moment, but he has the potential to break free. This print reminds us that even in the darkest times, we must maintain our hope for a better future. The etching is entitled “Tan barbara la Seguridad come el Delito” or “The Little Prisoner.” This first edition etching engraving is produced on laid paper and published by the Gazette des Beaux-Arts, Paris 1867, 19th century. Francisco Jose de Goya y Lucientes 1746-1828.
