Product Information
Henri Toulouse-Lautrec was a French artist who is best known for his paintings and posters of the late 1800s. He was born into an aristocratic family, but his physical disabilities – caused by a genetic disorder – led him to be excluded from social activities. As a result, he found solace in the world of art. Toulouse-Lautrec began his career as an illustrator, but he quickly developed his own unique style of painting. His work is characterized by bold colors and simplified forms, which conveyed the energy and vitality of the Moulin Rouge and other Parisian nightspots. In the early 1890s, he created one of his most famous lithographs, “Mary Hamilton.” The poster depicts a woman in formal attire a classic image of the art nouveau period. Toulouse-Lautrec’s work was highly controversial in his day, but it is now recognized as some of the most influential artists of the late 19th century. This original lithograph printed on chine volant paper is the second edition of 525 and is framed in a red and gilt dry lacquered frame.
