Signed by American artist Cecil Chichester (1891-1963), this vintage oil-on-board landscape painting of winter woodlands depicts a red-painted farmhouse along a frozen brook after a fresh snowfall. Chichester was born in New York City and was a commercial illustrator for the Pierce-Arrow automobile company. Chichester was also known for his landscape in an impressionist style, similar to Emille Gruppe and Carl Peters’s artwork. He was an instructor of the Woodstock Art Colony and the Art Students League of New York, and his works reside in the White House and the Smithsonian Museum.
