The centerpiece style bowl features maple yellow, and red high relief decorated dahlias set upon a beige and soft green background. The wide and low profile of the bowl shape is perfect as a small fruit bowl or as a stand-alone for tabletop decor.
Signed on the underside base Moorcroft pottery and stamped “Made In England,” the company has roots in the late 19th C. of the Victorian era. William Moorcroft employed by Staffordshire pottery manufacturer, James Macintyre & Co. Ltd. Under Macintyre, Moorcroft crafted an Aurelian Ware range of pottery, which incorporated transfer-printed in red, blue, and gold colors and also developed Florian Ware, using a technique known referred to as tube lining, which was influenced by the designs of art nouveau.
Moorcroft’s won the gold medal at the St. Louis International Exhibition for his pottery and ceramic designs in 1904, and in 1928 Moorcroft was appointed as the Potter to the Queen of England. This wonderfully styled bowl is an excellent example of Moorcroft art pottery and a wonderful addition to a variety of collections and interior styles.
