Product Information
Steuben Aurene glass is a type of art glass that the Steuben Glass Works produced in Corning, New York. The name “Aurene” is derived from the Latin word for “golden,” and refers to the distinctive iridescent finish of the glass. The glass is made by blowing the glass into a mold, then reheating it and blowing it again. The surface of the glass is then treated with a coating of metallic salts, which gives it its iridescent finish. Steuben Aurene glass was first produced in the early 20th century and was particularly popular during the period. The company is no longer in business, but the Aurene glassware is still collected and treasured by enthusiasts. This unique semi-translucent art glass lobbed bowl comes from an estate near corning, NY, with a semi-pumpkin lotus form that is vibrant and shimmering under light with a semi-translucent glow. The bowl appears to be unsigned but belonged to a worker of the Stueben glass factory and thence by descent. The bowl dates to the early 20th century.
