The plate with a black against white transfer printed landscape decoration of the Ecole Militaire, a vast military complex of buildings in the 7th arrondissement in Paris, France, located Southeast of the Champ de Mars.
The plate is crafted in lead-glazed earthenware on a white body from Creil, Oise, and Montereau, known as Criel ware or Creil-Montereau faience. This style of ceramics emulating the creamware pottery of 18th century Wedgwood. The plate is further accentuated with a thick yellow painted rim with black lined highlights on the front and an impressed mark on the plate’s reverse.
