Shop this Japanese hair stick for sale. This antique Japanese hair ornament is relief decorated in still-life carved scenes of hand fans, flowers, and botanicals. This antique hair stick dates to the Meiji era in Japanese, which was the period between 1869-1912. In our estimation, this hair stick dates to the second half of the 19th century and early in the Meiji era, making it well over a hundred years ago.
This hair accessory is hand-painted in a beautiful black lacquer with gold highlights. This antique hair stick is also artist signed, making it an exceedingly rare example of Japanese lacquerware and Meiji era fashion accessories. This lacquerware object comprises three sections: the main body or bar, which displays a signature, and two end sections, each of which displays a rising sun over flowers motif with gilt decoration.

The hair stick has wear to the lacquer surface decoration, and the underside post displays wear through to the underside wood post. Each gilt-decorated end post displays surface cracking associated with oxidation and general exposure. The black lacquerware center post also displays some wear and age-related imperfections to the glazed lacquer surface consistent with the age of this object.
