David Driesbach George Washington Surrealist 1960s Etching Art Print

David Driesbach’s “Fiscal Flight” is a striking example of his early Surrealist style. Created in 1967, it shows the artist’s technical mastery and playfulness with image and meaning. The original color etching and aquatint is hand signed, inscribed, and dated with a raw margin edge. The scene of George Washington, U.S currency, Capital Hill, and elements of the one-dollar bill create a sense of imbalance that is repeated in the placement of the figures on the off-center sheet, creating a sense of unease and disorientation.
