Product Information
A stunning example of German Expressionism is this beautifully executed illustration poem by Russian émigré Reinhold von Walter. Ernst Barlach produced 10 prints utilizing the woodcut method, which he had previously only dabbled in a few years prior. Walter’s story, set in Petrograd, references the recent political and social upheavals in Russia. The titular “head,” a hideous beggar-king, incites the populace to revolt. In the end, their violent behavior makes their agony worse. The framed woodcut was acquired during the early 20th century and includes an original gallery label, now removed from the frame.
