Product Information
Great wave off Kanagawa is a prolific woodblock print image created by a prolific artist in the early 19th century, circa 1830-1831, during the Edo era. Part of the artist series 31 views of Mt Fuji. A compelling and full image with dynamic and vivid use of color and space. While not purely Japanese in style, this print displays technical influences of the linear perspective, a technique employed by the artists of continental Europe.
This print has come to us from a long-time collector of Japanese art and was acquired at a regional auction house sometime in the late 1970s and dated to the end of the nineteenth century or turn of the century, circa 1885-1910. This is an exquisite image and would benefit a variety of interior wall decor settings, from traditional and classical interiors to the most modern settings in line with a contemporary Japanese aesthetic.
