This Japanese evening woodblock print for sale is by the Japanese artist Shoda Koho 1871-1946. The scene depicts an evening bosting sene of silhouettes against the dark blue water and a lone pine tree to the scene’s center-left. Evening lights stand throughout the scene in a glowing red, and even stars are sprinkled throughout the darkened sky. Dated to the 1910s-1920s, this original woodblock print is a fine example of early 20th-century ukiyo-e prints. Koho was a member of the Shin-Hanga art movement during the early 20th century, which means “New Prints.” the aesthetic of Impressionism influence Shin-Hanga.
Published by Hasegawa, this work is part of a portfolio of woodblock prints entitled “Hasegawa’s Night Scenes.” This framed Japanese print is also ideal for anyone looking to capture the spirit of the aesthetic of zen decor, Japanese art’s influence in art deco interiors, or even the spirit of arts and crafts period interiors with a Japanese influence. The mating with minor toning. The frame with light abrasions and wear. The reverse of the frame with hanging hinges removed and are not included in this purchase. The woodblock print is hinged and mounted to the backing.
